Ohio Newspaper Index

The Ohio Newspaper Index is an index of microfilmed Ohio newspapers available at the Ohio Historical Society's reading room. The Index covers the years 1793 to 1996 and can be searched by newspaper title, city or county. From the Newspaper Index web page, there is a link to a Newspaper database which is a complete list of all newspapers at OHS, filmed and unfilmed. Individual articles cannot be searched in these services.

Government Information Online

Government Information Online (GIO) is a new national project for providing reference service for government documents. Kent State is one of the thirty government depository institutions involved in the project. Questions can be answered via online chat or through e-mail correspondence. The Ohio Attorney General's office has introduced a drug comparison shopping web site called AGRx.

Grading the States 2005

Ohio receives an overall grade of "B" in state government performance in the Grading the States government performance project. States are graded separately on how they manage their money, people, infrastructure and information. Ohio's grades in these categories are B+, B-, A- and C+, respectively. From another perspective, the Cato Institute, a conservative think-tank, gave Gov. Taft an "F" in their annual fiscal policy report card.
